Mercia Carpets of AbbeyEnd,Kenilworth, has now been in operation as a private business for just over one year. It was formerly known as West Mercia Carpets Ltd. The business is run by Oliver Pearman, sole proprietor, assisted by his wife Vicki.

manager Adrian Weetman and fitters Mick Salmon and Andy Bromwich. Their aim is to promote a caring family service to their customers.
The Abbey End premises — with entrances front and rear is in a modern shopping area opposite the de Montfort Hotel.

Oliver Pearman was born
Kenilworth at the Moorlands Nursing Home, which is now St Francis of Assisi church in Warwick Road. He went to Abbots- ford school and then on to Warwick School.
Eventually he found himself in the carpet and furnishings business via Woodwards, The Baileys, Lancaster House and BMV carpet manufacturers.
He bought into West Mercia Carpets Ltd in October 1978 after being the fitter there for four years. He met Vicki and they married in 1982 and they share three sons, Andrew, Philip and Steven.
The shop became Mercia Carpets in 1985 and now has staff of five, promoting a successful family business. Adrian, as sales manager, has been with them four and a half years, Mick, the senior fitter, for three years, and Andrew, their son, also shares the fitting. The business has grown tremendously over the last 12 months and both Oliver and Vicki believe this can be attributed to promoting a professional image of the firm,
They usually only advertise

locally, with most of their work
coming from recommendations
and repeat business.
Some advertising is taken
with town theatre programmes,
charity events, etc and a new
venture is the sponsorship of
Kenilworth Wardens football
team, a section of Wardens
Cricket Club.
Oliver has been a playing
member there for over 25 years
and is chairman of the football club.
